In 2015 Pulse Techniques introduced 500-series versions of our popular 19" rack-mount solid-state line amp EQP-1A3-SS (EQP-500A) and EQP-1S3-SS (EQP-500S) equalizers. Based on the venerable API 2520 op-amp, these are preferred by some engineers to the vacuum tube models.

The 500A and 500S differ with respect to the corner frequencies on the low-frequency boost/attenuation shelves and the additional high-frequency boost frequencies (S adds 1k, 2k, 6k peak boost and 5k, 10k shelf boost, while dropping the 16k peak boost of the A).

In deciding which version to purchase, customers struggle most with whether to give up the 16k peak boost of the A that they have come to love in the full-sized units to get the 5k and 10k shelf boost of the S version. The 500X resolves that dilemma by dropping the 6k peak boost (least-used, based on customer feedback) and adding the 16k peak boost. So whether your track/mix needs the magical 16k air band or the full 5k/10k shelf boost, you have the option in a single equalizer.
